Kórnik commune is located in the middle section of Wielkopolskie Lake District. Almost 21 000 inhabitants live on the area of 186 sq. km in the town of Kórnik and 26 villages. Kórnik, with 7300 inhabitants, is situated on the tunnel-valley Lake Kórnickie, which caused the town’s elongated plan. It is only 20 km south-east of Poznań. It is an important communications junctions, at which a number of important interregional and local routes branch off: „katowicka route”, road no. 11 from Poznań to Kraków, road no. 431 to Mosina, and road no. 434 connecting Kostrzyn, Rawicz and Wrocław, on territory of our commune we have also highway A2 Berlin-Moskwa, runs near Żerniki village. The railway trunk-line Poznań-Upper Silesia also crosses the commune.
Recently the northern part of the commune, bordering directly on Poznań, has become very attractive to investors. A number of big international companies established their businesses here, mostly in warehousing and logistics and food processing, but small and medium-size local businesses also prosper, winning prestigious awards for high quality products and building the commune’s economic strength.
Picturesque, wooded areas on the Warta river, the chain of lakes, the town with beautiful castle and park provide great opportunities for tourism and recreation. In the forest enclaves of Borówiec and Kamionki new housing estates have been developed. The south-east part of the commune is predominantly agricultural.
